One day...
May 25, 2020
I always remember these words being used when I was a child and in so many different ways by different adults around me...
As I grew and matured and changed from childhood into adulthood the idea of 'one day' changed too - I stopped saying out loud 'one day' with an idea that one day things might be perfect or exactly how I'd like them to be and I simply just started to say and continue to say 'this day' - however - this wee poem 'one day' reminds me that to do all of that I had to continue to breathe...
We all need to remember to continue to keep breathing through all of this and through everything that’s still to come. Another thing my mother used to continually say when we were children was 'this time will pass'. Take comfort from my mother’s words and my own as I hope you will with the words that follow.
My creative offering to all of you after a beautifully heartfelt community offering of clapping for all of our amazing frontline workers:

One day
One day you wake up
and things have started to change around youSmall things to start with
like an instant observation,
an overheard thought,
a fleeting wish,
an irrational fear,
an acutely perceived need,
an intensifying feeling,
an incoming mood
Life needs change
and change needs life after all
The thing to ask oneself is this -
Where lies the integrity and purpose of
this instant observation,
this overhead thought,
this fleeting wish,
this irrational fear,
this acutely perceived need,
this intensifying feeling,
this incoming mood?
Then decide
that the greatest service
that your observations,
thoughts, wishes, fears,
perceptions, feelings and moods
can offer you
is to serve you
in a timely way,
a calm way,
a contemplative way,
a considerate way
And the greatest thing
that you, yourself can do,
is to overrule any powers
you could so easily give over
to these unwanted and oppressive intruders
of our most humanly ways
and simply breathe…
